This carafe was created in collaboration with the Dutch culinary duo "Steinbeisser". Steinbeisser is known for its extravagant culinary events, where new artists design the tableware and cutlery each time.
I designed the "Morph" carafe for a planned culinary event in Switzerland. The duo's brief was to illustrate the value of drinking water in concept and form. In the preliminary research, I noticed the fact that line patterns are distorted by the curvature in vessels and by the refraction of light; I used this visual effect to present the carafe as an attraction on the table.
With a conical base, the carafe moves with every touch and invites to interaction. The matching coaster, which is made of dark walnut and light maple wood, provides the lines that are distorted in the container.
The vessel was mouth-blown by glassblower Thomas Blank in his Open Glass Studio and has a capacity of approximately one litre.
